The Bread Project offers a free, five-week job training program in food prep and baking.
It’s 150 hours total, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Each class has 10–14 participants.

This program is free for low- to no-income Bay Area residents.
It supports those who face barriers to employment, including individuals who are justice-impacted, refugees, or immigrants.

In this program, you will learn:

  • Kitchen Skills – like how to prep food and bake in a commercial kitchen
  • Job Skills – like how to show up ready for work, communicate, and succeed on the job

We also help you with:

  • Job Search Support – one-on-one help to find and apply for jobs
  • Job Placement – connections to employers ready to hire

When you finish the program, you will get:

  • A ServSafe Certification from the State of California
  • A Certificate of Completion
  • 12 months of follow-up support with job placement and employment coaching

Who Can Join the Program

You are eligible if all of these apply:

  • Lift at least 25 pounds
  • You are 18 or older
  • You live in the San Francisco Bay Area
  • You have low- or no-income
  • You are legally allowed to work in the U.S.
  • You are looking for a job
  • You are available Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM for 5 weeks
  • You have a way to get to training (car, public transit, etc.)
  • You can understand and read some English
  • You have basic math and reading skills
  • You have access to a shower
  • You can:
    • Stand for up to 8 hours
    • See and read from 2.5 feet away
    • Hear in a loud kitchen
    • Bend, lift, twist, carry things, and move safely
