Former Food Entrepreneur Business Incubator Program Participant – Bake Sum – Voted Best Bakery in the East Bay for 2025

We cannot get enough of our Food Entrepreneurs!

Joyce, founder of Bake Sum, was our very first Food Entrepreneurs’ Business Incubator Program graduate—and her journey from our kitchen to an award-winning bakery is nothing short of inspiring. She started with a dream, joined our Incubator Program, and turned her vision into a thriving business.

The Bread Project is a social enterprise. This program not only helps passionate food entrepreneurs like Joyce grow their businesses but also helps fund our Baking & Food Prep Job Training & Placement Program. Through this job training & placement program, we specialize in supporting low-to-no-income adults in California who are ready to build a better future through food industry careers.

Many of our trainees face barriers to employment, including:

  • Individuals who are justice-impacted
  • Refugees and immigrants
  • Those who are unhoused or experiencing housing insecurity
  • People living with a disability
  • Adults re-entering the workforce after hardship

Programs like our Entrepreneur Incubator and Job Training & Placment help resilient individuals gain the skills, confidence, and opportunity to succeed—one loaf, one pastry, one career at a time.
